  • What Happened to the Epilog Blog Engine

Back in 2005 a keen developer by the name of Marten Veldthuis was trying to develop a new blog engine by the name of Epilog and the EpilogIT.com web site was the home of this project. Sadly the project got sidelined as Wordpress gained popularity and Epilog never made the grade as a commercial project.

Well, Epilog was never intended to be a commercial undertaking. The problem was more that as it turns out, I myself am not much of a blogger. Therefore, the “eat-your-own-dogfood” rule didn’t apply, and since I didn’t personally need the software, and had no plans to monetize it, there wasn’t much motivation to keep working on it.

    2. So there we have it …… straight from the original developers mouth! I am guessing there were a lot of blogging packages under development a few years ago before wordpress became the blog engine of choice.

I never heard of the “eat-your-own-dogfood” rule before. As a developer of 30 years experience myself most of the stuff I have developed was for commercial use and no use to me anyway. I dont have much use personally for multinational invoicing, manufacturing, inventory, banking and financial systems! So the “eat-your-own-dogfood” rule certainly never applied to me!

So if you are not much of a blogger, what was the motivation to start developing the epilogIT blog engine in the first place?
